'I'll stay, if you want me to.' Soul smiled.
'Have I ever given you the idea that I wanted otherwise?' He laughed, letting his head drop onto his paws in exhaustion.
'I'm beat. They close this garden, but I don't think they patrol it the same way they do in those human museums. You ever been to one before?' He asked in a low murmur, his mind slowly beginning to shut down.
It had been a pretty long day, and now all of his running and jumping and half-drowning was beginning to catch up to him. He yawned once, and then flipped over onto his back, lost in the sky as he searched for the moon. There it was- the massive cresent perched in the sky.
'I can't decide if I like the night or the day better,' He mused, smiling as he saw a firefly wander past them, leaving him dazed.
Something hit his ears, but he couldn't figure it out at the moment. Was it-
Music?
Someone was playing the guitar around the corner, a soft melody that sounded happy, matching his mood to the core. Soul loved music, and as soon as he was sure he'd fall asleep, the tune had torn him out, causing him to suddenly stand.
'Ya hear that?' He asked Sanna, searching for the source. 'Music! He laughed. ['Haven't heard much of it lately.'[/b]
He took a few steps to the left, hopping and then sliding to the right, landing beside her.
'And you know what always follows music around,' Soul whispered to her mischeviously before leaping up onto the statues beside them, grinning as he continued to move spaciously.

Sanna suddenly felt the fool. Of course he hadn't shown any signs that he didn't want her around. Yet, she'd been throwing the signs that she didn't want him around since he had first woken her up. Hard to believe that was only this morning.
Well, it's been a pretty long day. And no, not that I can recall, came the response.
She heard the music too and watched in silent amusement as he moved around. Dancing? What exactly was that? He sure looked the site, moving and jumping around. Sanna was more than glad to just lay there and listen to the sound. To enjoy it and soak it all in. She laid her head down on her paws, the rose now forgotten to her side. It was cool out and very peaceful.
I suppose when they close the gates we'll be safe here. Once we sleep the cold won't bother us anymore.
Soul, she started softly, looking up at him so that her eyes seemed larger than they were. How long have you been a stray?

Soul shot a grin at Sanna as he danced, noting her amused look until he finally grew tired and sat down beside her, grooming himself Her question caught him off-guard- he wasn't positive he knew the answer.
'Well, I can't be sure of my real age, since I don't have any memories from before I was a few months into my puppyhood,' He told her, a faraway look entering his eyes.
'But I guess it was technically after the Maestro died, but I might have been a stray before I got picked up on the streets... I think maybe about a little less than a year.'
A yawn stretched his mouth as his head flopped down on the cement, leaving him splayed out on his side. The dark night was now teeming with the beautiful gold glow of the fireflies, and for some reason the site only made him even more tired.
His eyelids dropped, and his stretched out into a more comfortable position, leaning partially on Sanna, already half-asleep.
Soul was known to speak in his sleep, so he wasn't surprised to find himself murmuring soft statements as he dozed.
'I'm hungry,' Was the first thing out of his mouth, the words slightly slurred, followed by others like, 'Don't wake me up yet,' 'You shouldn't do that,' 'They'll catch us if we don't run fast enough...'
But the one that could have be heard multiple times was 'Don't go.'

Sanna listened as she usually would, with silence as she soaked in all that he said. Soul seemed to have been through a lot that he couldn't remmber. She remembered most of her life and it almost felt strange that another shouldn't remember theirs. He almost seemed detatched. When he said "Maestro", she wondered to herself what he meant.
He leaned on her and she lifted her head to watch the fireflies flicker in the night air. Snow had fallen across the ground around them and she marveled a the interesting contrast between the two. She'd planned on sneaking away after he fell asleep but she just couldn't do it now. Not physically, and possibly not emotionally. If nothing else, she'd made friend today and she didn't want to be the bearer of bad news.
She listened to his sleep talking, but those two words soaked in. Sanna didn't know how, or why, but Soul needed someone. She was unsure if he needed a friend, or a lover, or just someone to gallavant around with... but he needed her.
For the first time in two years, Sanna lay her head against another dog's and closed her eyes. Together they'd stay warm and when morning broke they'd have another day to figure out what was next. She only hoped that this dog wouldn't be someone else lost to her all too soon.

When Soul woke up, he found himself stretched out on the cold pavement with a thin layer of snow laying over him, and Sanna's head resting on the side of his reck. He grinned, thinking about playing a joke on her like the day before, but ended up deciding against it. She was beginning to warm up a bit, and he wasn't going to be the one to return her to the cold self he had met jhust yesterday.
'Sanna!' He whispered excitedly, turning his head so as to face her. 'Sanna, let's go ice fishing, okay? Can we? I always wanted to! Can you catch fish?'
Soul said in a rush, his long curly tail waggig back and forth. There was a river outside of town, and he knew how to do it- he had talked to a few strays that told him it was pretty interesting. Soul liked the other dogs in town, but was wary- about 75% if them were usually hostile, so you could never let your guard down, no matter how much you'd like to.
She was heavily leaning on him, and the same went for him, so he slowly pulled himself out from underneath her weight so as not to send her crashing into the pavement. Soul lifted his nose into the air, taking in all the morning scents as he concluded today's weather would be cold, with a mild chance of a light shower, but no snow and not a lot of sun.
Of course, with fishing came the threat of drowning, so he mostly avoided it, but this was different. A solid hunk of ice would be supressing the demonic waves- he was glad. It deserved to be smothered.
'It's that way!' He said, pointing in the south direction before flashing a quick smile and taking off down the sidewalk and into the morning mist.

Whispering. It was in her ear and it was annoying. Her paw swept over her ear, but another sentence came. Then a questioning tone. Fishing? Could she fish?
Sanna suddenly realized that someone really was whispering to her. Her eyes opened and she looked at a very eager Soul. She started to growl at him, but then remembered the day before. Unsure of how the day would go, she slowly stood and stretched. It was new to her to awake and see someone there. Ice fishing was what he said? Or had she been dreaming that part. He pulled himself away and she almost fell, wanting to cling to that warmth. For a moment she felt cold and alone but she stood and shook out her fur to rid herself of the sensation.
He gave her little time to prepare herself before he grinned and started off down the street. Confident that he wouldn't abandon her, Sanna stretched and yawned and then trotted (a slow trot, really) after him. This was one way to start the day.
It felt different to start the day with a purpose rather than just roaming where she may and eating whatever came along. Fishing sounded like a good idea, but it wasn't something she'd ever tried before. She tried to imagine the frozen lake but failed at doing so. Instead, she pictured a large puddle she'd once slid across. That hadn't been fun.
