A large form struts into the empty apartment like he owns the place. His head is held high, his chest is puffed out, and he's purposely curling his tail over his back.

Never fear, my faithful pups! Your king has arrived! There is a hushed silence as he strides over to his throne and lays himself upon it.

Okay so he wasn't a king and his "throne" was a worn-out and quite dusty bed. He could still feel like he was king of his own little world. He plopped the sealed can of meat in front of him. He'd figured out by avid chewing that he could pop the tab and sometimes pull the lid off. It had been by accident the first time. While trying to chew his way into the can, his teeth had caught the tab and lifting it. From there he did what any dog would do and pulled the tab and... PRESTO! Dinner to go. He did this delicately now, though it took him a while to actually grasp the tab right in his teeth. Then he gave a pull and the lid popped off. He'd cut his tongue in the past but now knew exactly where and how to lick the can to prevent this. Holding it between his paws, he began lapping at the "potted' meat inside.

Yes, this is the life, he sighed contently when he was done. Dry sleeping quarters, good food, and not a care in the world.

Gerome was a very happy dog.
