 Quick as a Mouse...
« Thread Started on Dec 4, 2008, 10:04pm »

‘Avoid that meat…’

Mouse skirted a small piece of sausage that someone had dropped on the street, not wanting to get close enough to be tempted to try and eat it. Random meat lying on the ground equaled trouble. He had to keep reminding himself of that, or it would lead to something bad.

His thoughts drifted back to the dog he had met not too long ago that had gone insane, the one that gave him this thinking. Not that Mouse could really tell crazy from sane, but in any case, this dog warned him about poisoned meat before launching himself off a cliff. Mouse assumed he was crazy, but he decided to take his advice. As much as he liked sausage, it was better safe than sorry.

‘I catch my own food, losers.’

The huge mutt had just entered a dark alley and turned around, looking out toward the street. His golden brown eyes took in every movement of the each pedestrian; from the anxious mother trying desperately to calm her crying child, to the man walking with a quick pace, not caring that he was bumping into others and just shoving them aside.

Humans were so strange…Mouse enjoyed watching them scurry about during the day, doing menial tasks, he found it extremely entertaining.

But already the streets were becoming emptier and emptier, as the evening rush to get home was coming to a close. Mouse yawned, showing usually long fangs. Finally he could come out! He didn’t want to go out in the streets during the day, because it usually caused a bit of a ruckus, and he didn’t like extra attention. Well, not most of the time.

Despite the fact that people around his area usually loved dogs, hardly any human, and most dogs, too, could help but recoil at the sight of him. He was a huge mutt, his fur was rough and ragged, and his teeth almost always showing. He couldn’t help his looks; he got none of them from his mother. His mother was a beautiful little Shiba Inu, but he looked nothing like her. His looks bordered on outright ugly.

The majority of his fur was a mousy grey-brown, but it lightened to more of a golden brown on his paws, tail tip, ears, and the same shade lined his muzzle and eyes. His height was immense; he stood a little over three feet tall at the shoulders. He was very skinny, like he didn’t eat well, and his coat was rough, as if he never groomed himself. He was not a well taken care of dog.

Once there were only a few people lingering on the streets, Mouse lumbered out from his little hiding spot, going around the sausage again. He glanced around, wondering if there was anyone else nearby. He could use a fight right about now. Or maybe just some company. No, he definitely wanted a fight. But…

Once again, Mouse could not make up his mind on what he wanted.

Gotcha.

Sivah could hear the humans yelling after her as she quickly downed the hamburger she had quickly snapped out of the vendors hand. It would have tasted better with a little mustards, but what could you do?

Turning the corner, she dared to look back, checking to see if she was still being followed. And with little warning, she came crashing into another dog, leaving her flung backwards, landing hard on her side. She dragged herself up, checking to see if the other dog was injured.

The first thing Siv noticed was the mousey gray fur and how dirty it was. the second thing she noticed was how thin he was, and that he was indeed male.

'...Are you okay?' She called, walking over. She never trusted the streetdogs that couldn't even take proper care of themselves, and preferred not to have contact with them at all, but in this case, it was technically her fault for crashing into him while he was minding his own business, even if she was being chased by angry humans.

OOC: Yeah, that's right, I posted! I didn't want to steal yet another thread for myself, but, shocker, I did ;D So say hello to Sivvy! xD

As he walked, Mouse saw a white blur heading at him from the corner of his eye, but he didn't have time to get out of the way before it hit him. So instead, he tensed his muscles and stood his ground as the smaller dog hit him, stumbling to the side only for a second. He glanced down at the dog as she got up and came over to him, asking if he was okay. Quickly, he took in the hint of mistrust in her eyes, while narrowing his own. Another prejudice dog against the scruffy.

"Fine," he replied shortly in a deep, growl of a voice, "Just fine." He wasn't angry, he wasn't actually, intentionally growling at her, his voice just sounded like it was a growl. It had a growling tone to it, it wasn’t his fault. He turned away from the other dog, his jaws parted slightly and showing his sharp teeth.

Finally he'd decided that he didn't want a fight. Especially not against a female who was much smaller than himself. He didn't like the thought of that; it reminded him of when his mother was killed; the other dogs were much bigger than her, but they didn't care. They'd attacked anyway. Mouse would not fall to their level of dignity!

He told her he was okay, and she was glad, but as it came out in the thick growl she'd known to expect, Sivah was forced to resist the urge to shrink back, and instead stood a little straighter, trying not to let those excuses such as 'he could be dangerous' or 'what if he's one of the street dogs that likes to fight', or even 'perhaps he's a sick one?'keep her from turning tail and running like a coward.

'Fine then, I guess...' She said uncomfortably, turning to face the park. It was a busy day, and it looked like they hadn't disturbed too many people in their scuffle, so she looked back to him and warily offered a smile.

'Well anyway, do you want to get some food? I did, you know, knock you over just now, least I could do is help you steal something...

The wind picked up, sending her white fur blowing out in front of her, and causing her eyes to be blinded by the annoying oversized coat she had. She hated wind.

It'll be troublesome... I just ate,' She thought with a frown. But in the end, she did owe the guy one, whether she had been taught to never let debts get in the way of your safety or not.

OOC: Short, bad post- I'm sorry. The first posts with new people always get my muse and toss it somewhere, and then I can never seem to find it until a few posts later -_-; I'll get better, I promise!

((It's okay. =P))

Mouse swiveled his ears back to listen as she spoke uncomfortably. Forcing himself not to chuckle, he began walking away. Most dogs were uncomfortable around him, why should she be any different? She was just another snobby little stray.

When she spoke again, he froze in his tracks. Was she seriously offering to help him? It was a strange concept to him, no one ever helped him. He mused with this possibility for a long moment, wondering what to think. Finally, he spoke.

"Steal food?" he echoed slowly, still facing away from the other dog, "I don't steal food. I catch it. Like a cat catches a mouse. Like a dog snatches a burger." He stopped. He'd just contradicted himself again. He glanced back at Sivah, an extremely confused look on his face. On such a big, fierce dog, it looked quite comical. It almost took away some of his ugliness and made him cute.

He roughly shook his head, and the look was gone; replaced by an emotionless stare. "Thanks," he growled firmly. He wasn't sure if he was making the right move in his mind, but he wouldn't show his indecision in his voice. "But no thanks. I catch my own food." He turned and started walking away again with slow, plodding steps.
